For a month the crew of “Horizon” and hydrographs were conducting complex oceanographic research. Its work is useful for navigational and hydrographic support of the marine activity of Russia in the Barents Sea and the Kara Sea. Hydrographic investigations, hydrological observations, direction-finding fields were being conducted during this month. Also data for proof reading of maps, manuals, and textbooks for sailing were been gathered.
The ice environment in the area of the Franz Josef Land archipelago was very difficult. The work was complicated because of it. But this fact didn’t prevent our polar explorers to complete their mission properly. And although their work was for the Russian Federation, undoubtedly, valuable data will be useful not only for Russian scientists and researchers of the North but other polar explorers. Once again these Russian actions have demonstrated the world that our country works in the Arctic for the benefit of humanity.
